Citizens Advice Havant

Free, Confidential & Impartial

Help Us

We're recruiting volunteers right now

Demand for our free, confidential, impartial advice service continues to grow and we need more volunteers to help us deliver.

We currently offer advice through our offices in Waterlooville,  Hayling Island and our newly-refurbished offices in the Meridian Shopping Centre in Havant.

We’re planning to bring-on and train new volunteers in 2022, so if you’re interested, take a look a what volunteering involves.

Why volunteer?

Volunteering with Citizens Advice is challenging but incredibly rewarding.  You get to make a difference in people’s lives by helping them find solutions to their problems, big or small.

What does volunteering involve?

Most volunteers help us out around six hours per week, either one day or two half days, usually through one of our offices locally.  We also have some volunteers who volunteer from home remotely by telephone or online.

Do I need to be expert in something?

Absolutely not, you don’t have to know everything, but we train you to find the answers that people need.  You’d be amazed how your own life-experiences help you know how to find the answers to people’s problems.

Our volunteers come from all backgrounds and ages, and there’s no age limit.

None of our team is expected to work without training so we run a comprehensive training plan to prepare volunteers for the role they’re going to carry out.

What kinds of volunteering roles are there?

Many of our volunteers carry out face-to-face or telephone support roles, advising clients on a whole range of issues.  If this sort of role isn’t for you, we also need back-office volunteers to support the work of our frontline team.

Take a look at some of the volunteer roles available:

  • Volunteer Assessor: To gather information from clients at their first visit to ensure we have all the facts so that we can advise them fully.
  • Volunteer Adviser: Working either in the office or by telephone, researching the client’s problem and advising them on the action they need to take to resolve it.
  • Volunteer Customer Service: Welcoming clients and visitors as they enter the office. Many clients may be anxious about coming forward so it’s important to help them overcome their initial reticence.
  • Volunteer Help to Claim Mentor: Offering in-person or telephone support to clients trying to navigate their way through the Universal Credit benefits system.
  • Research and Campaigns Volunteer: Through the work that we do, we identify issues affecting the public and campaign for change to make people’s lives better.
